Review: Senran Kagura: Shinovi Versus
Senran Kagura is quickly becoming the most controversial series no one is paying any attention to. Hidden away in its niche genre is a game that from the outside appears indistinguishable from any other obscure Japanese anime release. But Senran Kagura’s overt sexualisation of its all-female cast is perhaps enough to surprise even fans of the genre, and to everyone else it’s likely to come across as perverted to an extreme level. The biggest shock? That behind the oversized boobs and dirty dialogue is a competent brawler that’s actually quite a lot of fun to play.
Review: Psycho-Pass 2
It its final scene the original Psycho-Pass alluded to a second series, but there’s still no denying that it nicely concluded all its main storylines. Psycho-Pass 2 carries on as naturally as possible for a sequel no one wanted that’s lacking its original writer, and initially surprises, if only because it’s not as bad as it could have been. But as it moves forward, Psycho-Pass 2 makes a few large stumbles, and struggles in its attempt to progress the franchise.
F-Zero: When will Captain Falcon return?
F-Zero is one of my favourite videogame series. Like both Mario and Zelda, this Nintendo masterpiece started as a 2D classic and successfully reinvented itself in 3D, transitioning well with the evolving videogame climate. But whilst the other two series include modern titles that live up to their heritage, it’s now been eleven years since the last F-Zero. Will Captain Falcon be returning any time soon? I’m hopeful, here’s why.
This Week’s Purchase: New Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Edition
This week I purchased the New Nintendo 3DS; an updated version of Nintendo’s handheld with a few notable improvements. Whilst the console itself isn’t launching in Europe till 13th February the ‘Ambassador Edition’ system has already been made available – and it’s this version in particular that I’ll be looking at today.
Review: Monster
Every now and then an anime comes along that completely redefines the posibilities of what can be achieved through the medium. This is the nature of Monster, a 74 episode epic that weaves together a sprawling tale of murder, mystery, crime and evil forces. At its heart is the story of a doctor attempting to track down a serial killer, but Monster is much, much more than this.

This Week’s Purchase: Super Smash Bros. (for Wii U) with adapter + GameCube Controller
What’s everyone’s favourite version of Super Smash Bros.? Mine is Melee for the Nintendo GameCube, although the N64 original is a close second. The game was always well suited to the Cube’s smart controller design, and due to a distinct lack of buttons on the Wiimote this also became the optimum way to play its sequel, Brawl. For the newest game Nintendo have undeniably gone all out, and this includes the option to use the fan favourite controller with the Wii U for the first time. Today I’ve been doing just that, and will look at the items needed to enjoy new Smash Bros. the old school way.
Xbox One – One Year On
Today is the Xbox One’s first birthday. It’s already been a year since Microsoft graced us with its latest console, and haven’t we all had a lot of fun with it? Sure, Microsoft may have broken a few hearts and a few promises, but isn’t that part of their charm? Today let’s relive that first year, and look at what did and didn’t go wrong.
