This week I bought a first generation GameBoy Advance. This was a console I used to really like, but its unilluminated screen means that by today’s standards it’s just about impossible to see in pretty much any lighting condition. However, when I found a fix for the console’s Achilles heel, in the form of a custom installed backlit screen, I also rediscovered my love for Nintendo’s classic handheld.
Is there any greater sign of excess than the collector’s edition of a videogame? And I mean a real collectors edition, the kind that has fancy packaging and a figurine or two, not a download code for an extra multiplayer map or shiny coloured gun. This week I’ve indulged myself with the remake of my favourite GameCube RPG (and its fairly average sequel on the Nintendo Wii). I present you with the Tales of Symphonia: Chronicles Collector’s Edition.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and I haven’t been writing as much as I’d have liked to. Still, Christmas is over, and now it’s back to me doing the one thing I enjoy more than actually playing videogames; talking about them. This week I’ve finally got my hands on the PlayStation 4, and will be sharing some early impressions, opinions, and advice for potential buyers.
It took forever to arrive, but the PS Vita Slim I purchased some time back in November is finally here. I must admit I was at first a little skeptical of Sony’s redesign, I mean it’s a bit thiner and the back is green, that’s about all that’s changed, right? But now I’ve got hold of it I’m pretty impressed, and this Japanese exclusive is a clear improvement on the original Vita in just about every way.
This week I spent a little more than I usually do on videogames, and I usually spend quite a lot. I’m not going to try and justify the Xbox One’s enormous price tag, but hey, if you’re planning to play Xbox games in the next seven years then you’ll need one of these machines, so why not get it now? ‘Day One’ has certainly been an exciting day, and before it’s over I’m going to share some early impressions of Microsoft’s new console, as well as a few of it’s games.
So this is what a slow news day looks like at Dracula’s Cave. Usually I’m talking about an entire console or something, but today all I’ve got to show is a single controller. And to make matters worse I didn’t even buy it this week, I bought it two weeks ago but had to wait ages for it to ship from Japan. Still, it’s a pretty awesome controller (it is pink after all) and marks a good opportunity for me to show off a few other items from my collection. Please enjoy this look at some of my rare, collectible, and downright strange controllers.
