Review: Forza Horizon 2

Forza Horizon 2I’m beginning to wonder if Playground Games have ever actually been to a music festival. In Forza Horizon 2 there’s no tent to pitch, no bands to watch, and no drugs to take. Instead you drive supercars, smash up the streets of Southern France, and steal old wrecks from barns. That’s not to say there’s no chance to party hard however, and an early cutscene reveals that the drivers stay up till 4am before the first day of races. Obviously a night of drinking it totally safe and responsible before a day of street races, theft, and destruction.

Review: Super Time Force

Super Time ForceTime travel doesn’t have to be used responsibly. This is the ethos of Super Time Force, and a sentiment felt across both its story and gameplay. Whilst a humorous and nonsensical narrative gives the game great character, the way the its unique mechanics mirror this chaos is only clever until it results in pure frustration. For better and for worse, time travel isn’t the exact science it should be.

Review: Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes

titleDoes anyone remember a game called Zone of The Enders? Released back in 2001, it saw good sales thanks to the inclusion of a demo for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Ground Zeroes is quite a lot like Zone of The Enders. That is if you removed pretty much everything Z.O.E is composed of. Remove it all and what’s left is a demo for a Metal Gear Solid game, just like Ground Zeroes.

Review: Dead Rising 3

titleI’ll be perfectly honest, if Dead Rising 3 hadn’t been a launch game for Xbox One then I probably wouldn’t have bothered with it. But as one of only three exclusives (unless you want to be pedantic and include Crimson Dragon et al) I figured it would be a better option than only having Forza 5 to play on my new console. And I must say I’m more that a little surprised; Dead Rising 3 is an immensely fun and addictive game that pushes the series to new heights.

Review: Forza Motorsport 5

titleForza 5 was the game that got me excited about Xbox One. The series had already established an incredible level of simulation, and the possibilities enabled by a new, more powerful console looked very promising. The end result is technically spectacular, yet whilst Forza succeeds as a masterpiece in certain areas, it lacks the depth and content that defined previous entries in the series.

This Week’s Purchase: Xbox One: Day One Edition

01This week I spent a little more than I usually do on videogames, and I usually spend quite a lot. I’m not going to try and justify the Xbox One’s enormous price tag, but hey, if you’re planning to play Xbox games in the next seven years then you’ll need one of these machines, so why not get it now? ‘Day One’ has certainly been an exciting day, and before it’s over I’m going to share some early impressions of Microsoft’s new console, as well as a few of it’s games.
