Remote Helper Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 July 2026
Remote Helper lets you use your iPhone or iPad as a wireless keyboard for your own computers over your local network. In short: Remote Helper collects nothing, sends nothing to its developer, and keeps everything on your own devices and network.
This policy covers both the Remote Helper iOS app and the Remote Helper listener that runs on your computer.
What we collect
Nothing. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party services or SDKs. The developer does not receive any data from the app or the listener.
What the app stores on your device
- A random device identifier, created the first time you open the app and kept in the iOS keychain. It lets a computer remember you've paired with it. It is a random value — not linked to your name, Apple ID, phone number, or any other identity — and it is never sent to the developer or any third party.
- Your preferences: the names and mascots you give your computers, any addresses you add by hand, and which computer is currently selected.
These live only in the app's local storage on your device.
What the listener stores on your computer
- The identifiers and display names of devices you've paired, so you don't have to pair them again.
- A local diagnostic log.
Both are kept only on that computer (in its local application-data folder) and are never transmitted anywhere.
What is sent over the network
When you type or press keys, the resulting text and key presses are sent directly to the computer you have selected, over your local network only. They are not sent to the developer or any third party. Because this travels over your local network without encryption, use Remote Helper only on networks you trust (such as your own home network).
Dictation
If you use the keyboard's microphone/dictation button, your speech is transcribed by Apple's built-in iOS dictation, which is governed by Apple's privacy policy — not by Remote Helper. The app only receives the resulting text, exactly as if you had typed it. Remote Helper does not itself record audio or request microphone access.
Permissions the app uses
- Local Network — required, so the app can find your computers and send keystrokes to them. This is the only permission the app requests.
Children
Remote Helper is a general-purpose utility. It does not target children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top.
