Local Music Player Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
Local Music Player is an iPhone and iPad app that lists and plays the music stored on your device. In short: Local Music Player collects nothing, sends nothing to its developer, and keeps everything on your device.
What we collect
Nothing. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party services or SDKs. The developer does not receive any data from the app.
What the app reads on your device
The app reads your device's music library through Apple's Media Library framework, so it can show your albums, artists, playlists and songs and play them. This needs the Media & Apple Music permission, which iOS asks for the first time the app opens. The app only reads the library; it never changes it, and nothing it reads leaves your device.
Songs play through Apple's own music player. If you turn on Show cloud-only songs in Settings, the app also lists songs in your library that aren't downloaded, and playing one of those streams it through Apple's music service under Apple's privacy policy. The setting is off by default.
What the app stores on your device
- Your settings: the look you choose (font, colour, appearance), how lists are sorted, which shelves and tabs are shown, and the other switches in Settings.
- Recent searches: the last few things you typed into search, so they can be offered again. You can turn this off in Settings, which also forgets what was kept.
- Artist pictures, if the app has looked any up (see below), kept in the app's cache folder so they aren't fetched twice. Deleting the app removes them.
All of this lives only in the app's local storage on your device and is never sent anywhere.
Artist pictures from Apple Music
The one thing that goes over the network is artist pictures, and two switches in Settings control it: Artist pictures in search, which is on by default, and Artist pictures from Apple Music for the Artists shelf, which is off by default. With either on, the first time an artist is shown the app looks them up by name in the Apple Music catalogue and downloads a picture of the matching artist, so it can show that picture instead of an album cover. Only the artist's name is sent, and it goes to Apple, not to the developer. Apple's handling of the request is covered by Apple's privacy policy. Turn both switches off and the app makes no network requests at all.
Permissions the app uses
- Media & Apple Music — required, so the app can read and play your music library. This is the only permission the app requests.
Children
Local Music Player is a general-purpose music player. It does not target children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
